Welcome to Bookish Pursuits!

My name is Joyce and this is my humble playground in cyberspace where my insanity runs amok. I created this book blog with the intention of using it for my thoughts, opinions, and reviews on the books I've read and the books I want to read. This is also where I'll keep a tab of all the reading challenges I decide to participate in, and interesting excerpts from the books I'm reading, as well as any odds and ends related to books and reading.

If you're interested, feel free to follow me and I will probably return the favour.

I’m a voracious reader and I enjoy a variety of genres including young-adult, romance, classics, mystery, fantasy, and historical fiction.

I would love to hear book recommendations from fellow booklovers. So if you want to share a recommendation or two, you can check out my Never-ending Reading List and leave me any suggestions in any of the comments section below.

2009 Fall Into Reading Challenge

I was doing some blog-hopping when I stumbled upon Callapidderdays blog. I was reading through her posts when I chanced upon one of the challenges she was hosting. It is the second challenge I'll ever be participating in that's why I'm a bit nervous but excited. I'm on a reading lull recently, and I've decided that by creating a blog and joining reading challenges, it will somewhat help me regain my reading motivation and chunk out a bunch of books on my ever-growing TBR pile.

The Fall Into Reading 2009 Challenge is a fun, low-pressure reading challenge open to anyone and everyone. The challenge will run from September 22 until December 20, 2009. The jist is to create a list of some books you’d like to read or finish this fall. This is the only real requirement for participating in the challenge. If you already have your list, go and Sign Up at the 2009 Fall Into Reading Challenge Sign Up List. Crossovers with other challenges are allowed and your lists may change at any time.

For the 2009 Fall Into Reading Challenge, my goal is to finish 10 Books.

1. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins ~ 5/5 Stars
2. Seduce Me at Sunrise by Lisa Kleypas ~ 4.5/5 Stars
3. Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins ~ 5/5 Stars
4. The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman ~ 5/5 Stars
5. Graceling by Kristin Cashore
6. The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan
7. The Sugar Queen by Sara Addison Allen
8. Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris
9. North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell
10. The Gargoyle by Anthony Davidson

  1. That's quite a handful of books to read. I recommend the Stephanie Plum series. It's really good.

  4. Hely!!!

Thank you. I liked it too. I wanted a place where I can write down anything I want and to share to people my thoughts on the books I read so I thought about this. And also to journal all the reading challenges I've been joining. It's fun! I think I've been motivated to read ever since I've put this up. ;)

I'm currently writing my review of The Hunger Games as of this moment.

I know~! One of my friends who've read both books told me that if I fell in love with THG, wait what will happen after reading Catching Fire. I'm so excited to read it. I'm going to buy it this week. Tomorrow, at the earliest.

    Thanks once again Hely.♥

  6. The Gargoyle is absolutely wonderful! You'll get hooked to the characters and the story that jumps between time periods; truly beautiful.

Seduce Me At Sunrise and Tempt Me At Twilight are also great reads. I'm a Lisa Kleypas addict and the Hathaways are one of my favorite families of hers.

    Enjoy!

  8. Hello Erin,

I'm so happy you enjoyed The Gargoyle. I'm so excited to read as I've heard a lot of good reviews about this book.

I'm such a Lisa Kleypas addict too. I adore her books. And yeah, the Hathaway series is fastly becoming one of my favorite series written by her. I'm so excited for Tempt Me at Twilight and Leo's story in Married by Morning. I also adore her contemporaries. I'm currently listening to the third book in the Travis trilogy titled Smooth-Talking Stranger.

Good luck to us on the Fall Reading Challenge! ;) Happy reading!♥

  10. Hello Alison,

Thank you for dropping by on my humble blog. Wow! Thank you. I tried to include books form different genre on to my list so it wouldn't be repetitive. But I might tweak it a little later on depending on my mood. ♥

I'm already halfway finished with Catching Fire and I must say that it SO good. I'm totally in love with this series. They must release the third book in the series earlier. I can't wait any longer. LOL.

    You too. Happy reading!
